Heavy-Duty (Class 8) Grain Truck Bodies
A grain truck body is a specialized type of dump body designed for the efficient and safe transportation of agricultural commodities like grain, corn, soybeans, and other bulk materials. They are a crucial component of the agricultural supply chain, used by farmers to move crops from the field to storage bins, elevators, or processing facilities.
Key features include high walls, dump function and a rear gate with grain chute.
Similar to dump truck bodies, grain truck bodies feature a hydraulic hoist to lift the front of the bed, allowing the grain to slide out the back.
Grain bodies typically have tall, usually fixed, sidewalls to maximize the volume and contain the loose cargo.
The rear gate is designed for both full-width access and controlled unloading. It typically has a three-piece swing gate that can be fully opened, as well as a smaller, center grain chute or “trap” to allow for a metered, controlled flow of grain into a pit or auger.
These bodies are open at the top, typically covered with a standard or an electric roll tarp and are raised using hydraulically operated hoist systems.
The tarp protects the cargo from weather (rain, snow) and prevent material from blowing out during transport.
Medium/heavy- and heavy-duty grain truck bodies is determined by the length and capacity of the body, and the chassis on which it is mounted.
