Curtainside vans are flatbeds mounted on commercial cab chassis, that have the added protection of an enclosed van truck body. Flatbeds are enclosed with 28 oz. PVC-coated polyester curtains, with a heavy-duty understructure inside the curtain enclosures to support the curtains.
Curtainside van bodies have only two solid walls—the front and rear panels. Curtainside van bodies also feature an aluminum or translucent FRP roof.
Big, bulky products that are moved with forklifts are usually transported in curtainside vans. Examples include landscape materials, lumber, piping and heating material, and large equipment such as windows, doors, and cabinets.
Curtainside van bodies may also be partitioned for hauling different material, thus making it possible to undertake multiple deliveries at the same time.
This type of body is used as an alternative to box vans, although typically manufactured on a flatbed shell. They are usually manufactured alongside box vans and flatbed trucks.
The average length of curtainside van bodies is usually greater than that of box van bodies. The length of curtainside van bodies usually ranges from 18 ft. to 28 ft., width up to 102 inches, and interior height up to 109 inches.
