Bulk feed Trailers are designed for the efficient and safe transportation of animal feed and other granular or pelleted bulk materials. They are crucial in the agricultural and animal husbandry sectors, ensuring that feed reaches farms and processing facilities without contamination or loss. They are mainly used for transport of commodities such as poultry, swine, fish and dairy feed, powder feed, noncorrosive bulk material, grain, and pharmaceutical powder.
These tanks are predominantly manufactured in aluminum.
The bulk feed trailer tanks are compartmentalized to carry different types of feed or materials in a single load. They are designed to maintain the integrity and quality of the feed, often with smooth interiors to prevent sticking.
Bulk feed tank trailers are manufactured in straight bulk or combination bagged and bulk designs.
Bulk feed tank trailers are manufactured in several configurations in lengths ranging from 24 ft. to 50 ft. and capacities ranging up to 2,700 cu. ft.
Bulk feed trailers typically use one of following discharge systems to unload feed into silos or bins.
- Auger System – This features a corkscrew-like design to move feed through the bottom of the trailer and into the discharge boom. This is one of the most common and oldest methods.
- Drag Chain – A drag chain system, also known as a chain and slat system, moves feed along a pan at the bottom of the trailer using a series of chains.
- Paddle Wagon – is a type of drag chain system that has a paddle-style conveyor to move material through the discharge boom.
- Pneumatic Discharge – involves a floor auger which moves the product to an airlock, where it’s then propelled by air pressure through a vertical pipe to the discharge boom.
The price of bulk feed trailers depends on the length, capacity, and the discharge system in the body.
