Refrigerated/Insulated van bodies are used for transportation of frozen goods (refrigerated) or perishable items requiring controlled temperatures (insulated). Refrigerated/insulated vans are also primarily mounted on Class 3 to Class 7 commercial cab chassis.
Refrigerated van bodies are mainly sheet and post aluminum bodies. A few refrigerated van bodies also feature fiberglass sidewalls.
Most refrigerated vans feature a mechanical refrigeration system, but a few leading manufacturers provide the option of a cold plate refrigeration system in the insulated units they manufacture.
The price of a refrigerated van body primarily depends on the size of the body, the thickness of insulation and type of the refrigeration system installed on it. Eighty percent of refrigerated/insulated van bodies feature lengths greater than 20 ft.
Refrigerated van bodies with built-in cold plate refrigeration systems have a higher average price, as these bodies are sold with the installed cold plates as integrated units by the body fabricator.
